Lunchgoers rely on Frances Nation for thoughtfully composed sandwiches and bakery rolls layered with vibrant house pickles and bold fillings.
One of the most delicious sandwiches I've had in Christchurch!! Every ingredient packed such a punch and felt like it stood out without taking over.
Foodie Mama NZ Integrated Regional Pantry and Bottle Shop
Beyond counter service, patrons can pick up specialty New Zealand pantry goods, regional cheeses, craft provisions, and North Canterbury wines in one visit.
Packed to its gorgeous gunnels with a selection of New Zealand made craft goodies, and a perfectly curated selection of North Canterbury wine.
Elizabeth Davidson Courtyard Seating Along the Tramline
Open-air tables set within the heritage stone courtyard offer front-row views of Christchurch’s vintage tram gliding past.
The outdoor seat is great to let me enjoy the quietness, sometimes the tram would pass by and it also brings the feeling of holiday.
Crystal Atmospheric Nook in Heritage Stonework
Inside the historic stonework, an intimate seating corner styled with fresh native florals provides a tranquil pause from the surrounding arts precinct.
We especially love the cosy indoor nook, where the tables are adorned with Australian native flowers, and there's a lovely scent from nearby shops.
Kwee Yum Lee (이귀염) Sunny, Unhurried Courtyard Respite
The sunny open courtyard allows visitors to slow down and savor warm mornings with excellent espresso and welcoming service.
I loved sitting outside in the sunshine.
Anais King Discovery of Artisan Pantry Treats

Before you head over
Practical advice on timing, weather considerations, and takeaway ordering for your visit—book your table in advance to guarantee a spot.
Time Your Visit Around Weekend Rushes
The compact shop floor fills quickly during peak Saturday rushes, leading to longer order queues. Visit during earlier morning or off-peak hours if you prefer a quieter experience and minimal waiting.
Plan Around the Weather for Seating
Interior seating is limited to a cozy indoor nook, making table availability tight when it rains. On clear days, take advantage of the sunny courtyard tables or carry your sandwich order across to the nearby botanic gardens.
Use the Order Collection Hatch for Takeaway
If grabbing artisan sandwiches and coffee to go, pickup is managed smoothly via the exterior collection hatch, allowing you to bypass the interior retail crush on busy days.
